Bacardi Gran Reserva 16 Year Old aged for 16 years in the hot Caribbean climate. The expression offers "warm woody notes" and flavors of stone fruit and caramel.In 1814, Facundo Bacardi Masso, a Spanish wine merchant, was born in Sitges, Barcelona, Spain. He immigrated to Cuba in 1830. During this period, rum was made cheaply and was not considered a refined drink.

Facundo began trying to tame the rum by isolating a proprietary yeast strain still used in Bacardi production. The final product was the first clear, or "white" rum in the world.Bacardi Limited has since grown into one of the largest US private, family-owned spirits companies in the world.
