Protos Gran Reserva Ribera 2014 0.75L

Producer: Bodegas Protos

Protos Gran Reserva is a wonderful wine, easy to drink, with notes of fruit both on the nose and in the mouth and a very complex aromatic bouquet produced from 60 year old Tempranillo. After vinification, it matures for 24 months in French and American barrels -mostly new- and then rests for 36 months in bottle.

It has a dark cherry color with grainy highlights and on the nose it is expressive and complex. The bouquet is complex with jam, cocoa, smoke, mineral notes, aromatic herbs and a light sense of wet earth, while in the mouth it is elegant with round tannins and a long aftertaste. It has good aging potential and can be enjoyed with Veal, Rib Eye, Lamb Ribs and Beef Wellington.

It was 1927 when eleven childhood friends from different professions gathered to celebrate their families' viticultural roots and their love for their village, Penafiel. They had a dream, not only to make good quality wines, but also to highlight the importance of a forgotten wine region with a brilliant heritage. Together they would change the history of this region, introducing from rustic wines for personal consumption to a now world famous Spanish appellation, Ribera del Duero.

The original name of the winery was Ribera del Duero. In 1982, Protos authorizes the use of the brand "Ribera Duero", to establish the Designation of Origin. So they took the word "FIRST" from the Greek language and made it their new name. They were the first to see the potential of the area. In the vineyards of Ribera del Duero the grapes are 100% Tinta del Pais (Tempranillo) at an altitude between 750 and 800 meters. In 2020 it was distinguished as a "Best Winery" by Wines & Spirits magazine.
