Balvenie 12 years old American Oak is a single malt Scotch whisky that has been matured for 12 years in American oak barrels. Balvenie 12 Year Old Doublewood whiskey was created by Malt Master David Stewart who designed the process in 1982. Whiskeys mature for at least 12 years in oak and ex-bourbon barrels before being transferred to ex-sherry Spanish barrels for 9 months. Then they all go together in large pots or tuns as they are called for 4 months. There, the flavors and aromas of all the barrels will be married before they are bottled so that this excellent single malt whiskey will come to us.
